“Have we bitten off more than we can chew…….probably!” Jamie Lundy - Producer / Director
The initial idea for ‘Principle Deception’ started way back in January 2018 when Andy Lee (Co-director / writer) passed a WW2 short film script he’d written to Jamie Lundy hoping he would be interested in creating a short film. The days that followed, Andy was unaware that he had started a chain reaction of creative thinking and story telling in Jamie’s mind that would inspire them both to write something truly epic. Ellie Evans……the heroic SOE agent……was born.
After numerous script rewrites, darker plots added, dog fights, assassination attempts, rescue missions, creating characters and generally blowing things up, the script has finally landed on Jamie’s desk for sign off.
Mr Lundy adds:
“Its exciting, but its taken a while to get to this stage. It needs to be perfect. My co-writers and I (Andy Lee and Paule Van Wijngaarden) have dedicated hundreds and hundreds of hours to ensure this film ticks every box in terms of accuracy, action, romance, intrigue, empathy, lust, hate. The audience will be taken on an emotional journey, peering into the world of our Characters. Learning about them, connecting with them, loving and hating them.
My Co-Director Andy is a WW2 historian. His Grand Father served in 617 Squadron (1943) in the Dam Buster’s Raids. He was one of the chief mechanic’s in Wing Commander Guy Gibson’s crew…….. For anyone who doesn’t know the story, 617 Squadron, of the Royal Air Force, was sent on an audacious bombing raid to destroy three dams in the Ruhr valley, the industrial heartland of Germany. The mission was codenamed Operation 'Chastise’. The dams were fiercely protected. and torpedo nets in the water stopped underwater attacks and anti-aircraft guns defended them against enemy bombers. But 617 Squadron had a secret weapon: the 'bouncing bomb'. It was successful and a key mission in the demise of Hitler.
Initially I wanted to link the ‘Dam Busters’ into our own story, but we agreed, its a very sensitive subject and would need to be extremely historically correct. Plus, all those bombing planes would require costly CGI, something that was well out of our budget. We may have to leave that one to Spielberg to Direct!”
After 18 months of writing, researching, character creating, scout locating it seems ‘Principle Deception’ has taken its time to get to this stage, but will it be worth it?
“I hope so” Jamie smiles. “We have put everything into this and more. I’m sure the team have all been frustrated with me at times, but they have been extremely patient too. They understand the importance and sensitivity of this film and its come a long way”.
Principle Deception is due to begin its pre-production phase at the start of January 2020 and filming will start May / June 2020.
“We have some big names lined to this film already. Its all about securing the budget now. It deserves it”.
